| Embora o arroz seja tradicionalmente cuktivado no Estado , sendo atividade importante no setor agrícola, existem problemas relacionados com a falta de cultivares tolerante, ou resistentes às condições adversas do solo, clima, pragas, doenças que apresentem boa produtividade. Com essa finalidade foram conduzidos nos municípios de Porto Velho e Ouro Preto D'Oeste no ano agrícola 81/82, ensaios de competição de 18 genótipos de arroz de sequeiro nos quais foram avaliadas características agronômicas como produtividade, resistência ao acamamento, ciclo e tolerância a pragas e doenças. |

| Forty-four Bacillus spp. strains obtained from sugar cane derivates and residues, six of them isolated in this work, were tested using Tween 80 as substrate (agar-Tween 80 medium), in order to determine their esterase activity through the enzymatic index averages. After statistic analysis, B. cereus (C124) strain, which presented better results, was submitted to genetic improvement by treatment with ultraviolet light (UV). The survival curve pointed out 28" as the time necessary to obtain 30% of survivors. Fifty survivors and the wild strain C124 were compared in relation to their esterase activity as mentioned previously. | Resumo: Avaliou-se a producao media diaria de leite de cabras do grupo genetico tricross da Embrapa Caprinos, durante quatro anos, num total de 680 lactacoes. O rebanho foi mantido em pastagem nativa com suplementacao mineral durante o ano, porem na epoca seca, o rebanho recebeu volumoso de silagem de sorgo, e concentrado a base de milho com farelo de soja. O rebanho tricross foi submetido a tres estacoes de monta por ano. O controle leiteiro foi feito uma vez por semana, de manha e a tarde. | The U.S. Plant Variety Protection Act (PVPA) of 1970 was meant to strengthen intellectual property protection for plant breeders. A model of investment under partial excludability is developed, leading to the hypotheses that any increase in excludability or appropriability of the returns to invention, attributable to the PVPA, would lead to increases in investment or efficiency gains in varietal R&D, improved varietal quality, and enhanced royalties. These hypotheses are tested in an economic analysis of the effects of the PVPA on wheat genetic improvement. | The New-Caledonian shrimp industry is based on the controlled reproduction of the shrimp Litopenaeus stylirostris, a species which was introduced in the 80s. The major difficulty to which the industry has been faced for 10 years is the occurrence of the "syndrome 93", which corresponds to mortality phases when the temperature falls down in April-May-June. This mortality is associated to the pathogenic bacteria Vibrio penaecida and is expressed at different levels which are variable from year ta year and from pond to pond. | The New-Caledonian shrimp industry is based on the controlled reproduction of the shrimp Litopenaeus stylirostris, a species which was introduced in the 80s. The major difficulty to which the industry has been faced for 10 years is the occurrence of the “Syndrome 93”, which corresponds to mortality phases when the temperature falls down in April-May-June. This mortality is associated to the pathogenic bacteria Vibrio penaecida. An experiment of genetic selection based on the criterion ofsurvival to Syndrome 93 has been conducted at the Laboratory of Aquaculture of New Caledonia. | In order to evaluate the effects of broiler genotype and of heat exposure on performance, carcass characteristics, and protein and fat accretion, six hundred one-day-old male broilers were randomly assigned in a 2 x 3 factorial arrangement, according to the following factors: genetic group (selected and non-selected broilers) and pair-feeding scheme (Ad32 - reared under heat stress and fed ad libitum; Ad23 - reared at thermoneutrality and fed ad libitum; Pf23 - reared at thermoneutrality and pair fed with Ad32), with a total of six treatments with four replicates of 25 birds each.
